WhatsApp Web
Save WhatsApp status and chat media. From WhatsApp Web.
Status photos and videos, and the media in your chats, to your Downloads folder.
Grablet is a browser extension. Open web.whatsapp.com, view a status or open a photo or video in a chat, click Save. WhatsApp decrypts the media in your browser as it always has; Grablet saves it from there. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Free and unlimited. No account, no tracking, no watermarks.
Your browser will ask for access to websites. That is how Grablet sees media on the page you are on. Nothing is ever sent to us. Why it needs that
On Android, install Grablet in Firefox for Android. Also available on desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Grablet is not available in Chrome for Android or Firefox on iOS.
How to save a WhatsApp status or a chat photo
- Install Grablet from the Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons or Firefox Add-ons. There is no sign-up.
- Open web.whatsapp.com and view the status, or open the photo or video in the chat, so that WhatsApp shows it full size.
- Click Save, on the post itself or in the Grablet popup, where everything on the page is listed by type and quality, best first.
The file lands in your Downloads folder, filed under the site’s name.
What it saves
- Status photos and videos, while you are viewing them.
- Photos and videos in your chats and groups, once you have opened them.
- Files sent in a chat, as they are opened.
- Only what is on your own screen, in your own session. Grablet never reads your messages and never sees anything you have not opened.
What it won’t save
- Statuses and media you have not opened. WhatsApp does not decrypt them until you do.
- Anything from the WhatsApp phone app. Grablet works in a desktop browser, on WhatsApp Web only.
- Media that has expired or been deleted before you opened it.
And, as everywhere: not YouTube, and nothing DRM-protected. Store policy in the first case, the law in the second. No setting unlocks either.
Questions
Does the sender know I saved it?
Grablet tells WhatsApp nothing. WhatsApp counts your view of a status exactly as it always does, and nothing more happens.
Is my WhatsApp still end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Decryption is WhatsApp’s own, inside your browser, exactly as when you view a photo. Grablet only sees the media the page displays, and nothing is sent to us or to anyone.
Do I need to paste a link into a website?
No, and nothing could: WhatsApp media has no public link. Grablet works from your browser, on WhatsApp Web itself, and no third party is involved.
Why is WhatsApp Web the only way?
Because it is the only place the media exists in a browser. Grablet is a browser extension, and phone apps do not run extensions.
Is this allowed?
Statuses are shared with you by people who chose to. Please only keep what you have the right to keep, and respect the people who sent it.
Private by construction
What you save never passes through us. Grablet finds the media, assembles a stream and saves the file inside your browser, needs no account, and never uploads anything. Its one server issues Pro licence keys and never learns what you save. The privacy policy is short because there is little to say.
Please only save content you have the right to keep, and respect the people who made it.
